When CS Lewis was asked by a schoolgirl in 1959 to give her some advice on writing, his first reply was to "turn off the radio." Sometimes I like to imagine Lewis getting distracted by his own radio and throwing half-typed papers into the fire, or maybe even chucking the whole radio against the fireplace in disgust.
I've recently started playing long-form "ADHD relief" music on Youtube. Wow! I don't fully understand that musical frequency magic, but it really helps me dig into the work I need to do! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z77ikRecGI
Writing is in your DNA. You have a true gift with words. The way you spin a sentence is art. Descriptions like ‘burning orb’ stick with me. Writing a book happens one thought, one word, one experience at a time and one sentence at a time. Your Dad gave great advice about picking 5 characters and focusing on them. Distractions are real and frantic and they never sleep. But when the rhythm between living and writing becomes workable, you shine bright and your words are alive.
"I shall at last be worn out and perish, like an old nutmeg-grater, grated to pieces." This is the feeling - the universal feeling! Nailed it. What a relief to know I'm not the only one.
I just watched your collab with L.L. Bean "IF I DISAPPEAR," which made me so hopeful about how malleable our minds are when we have the space and intention to tap out for a bit <3
Yo Jed this slapped. I have ADHD and trying to finish a post on here feels like slowly limping across the finish line of a 100 meter sprint for me sometimes. Good to know I’m not alone 😂
“There is no such thing as writing a book.” YES! I loved this. Break it down into small bites. Celebrate a sentence, a short paragraph, etc. As always, Jed, you manage to express just what I need to hear at the right time.
Beautiful reminders.

Hahaha incredible
“There is no such thing as ‘writing a book.’ There is only ‘write this scene.’ There is only writing a page…” … Thank you! ✨
❤️❤️❤️🍀🍀🍀
“All my books are botches” is such a relatable feeling. Would love to get a Moby Dick out of it someday 🤣
😮💨 same

I KNOW YOU TOOK 416 SCRIPT ANALYSIS. Irving would be horrified.
A beautifully written dose of inspiration to keep at it in spite of all the noise. Thank you for this 🙏
